TL;DR
Our client, a FinTech in Bengaluru, is hiring a Senior Product Manager to own its cards and UPI credit products. This sits at the point where two regulatory regimes and two sets of rails meet, which is what makes it interesting and what makes it hard to hire for.
The client is confidential at this stage. We will tell you who it is before your profile goes anywhere.
What the role owns
Credit on UPI and the card issuing product, end to end: the customer proposition, the economics, and the roadmap that connects them.
Credit on UPI is still a young product in India and the commercial model is not settled. The merchant discount rate behaves differently from a card transaction, the customer expectation is set by the free UPI experience, and the credit decision has to happen inside a payment flow designed to take seconds. A product manager here is making real judgement calls, not optimising an established funnel.
On the card side the work is more familiar but no less exacting: issuing, the network relationship, interchange, rewards economics and the lifecycle from application through activation to usage.
What the client is looking for
Someone who has owned a credit or payments product with its P&L, not only its roadmap. The strongest signal is being able to explain the unit economics of something you shipped, including what you got wrong about them initially.
Fluency with the Indian rails specifically. NPCI's circulars on credit lines on UPI, how the economics differ from a standard UPI transaction, and the RBI's digital lending guidelines are the operating environment, and this is not a role where that can be picked up afterwards.
Comfort working closely with risk. On a credit product the risk function is a co-owner of the proposition rather than a gate at the end, and candidates who have a collaborative instinct there do better.
Process
A conversation with us, then the client's product leadership, then a working session on a real product problem in the credit-on-UPI space.
