Software Engineer, server side, Dubai

Backend engineering, based in Dubai. Relocation considered.

TL;DR

Our client, a business based in Dubai, is hiring a server side software engineer. The role is based in Dubai rather than remote, and the client will consider candidates relocating from India, which is a route we run regularly.

The client is confidential at this stage. We will tell you who it is before your profile goes anywhere.

What the work is

Backend service development and the infrastructure around it: APIs, data layer, integrations with third parties, and the operational work of keeping all of it running. It is a hands-on individual contributor role.

What the client is looking for

Solid backend engineering in a mainstream server-side language, with real experience of running what you build rather than handing it to someone else. Comfort with cloud infrastructure and with being on the hook when something breaks at an awkward hour.

The team is small, so breadth helps. Someone who can move between service code, a database problem and a deployment issue in the same week is more useful here than a narrow specialist.

On relocating from India

Most candidates we place into Dubai move from India, and there are a few things worth knowing before you start. The employer sponsors the residence visa, so the offer and the visa are linked. UAE salaries are not taxed at source, which changes the comparison with an Indian offer substantially once housing is accounted for. Notice periods and the timing of a visa run in parallel rather than in sequence, and getting that wrong is the most common reason a move slips.

We cover this properly in moving from India to the UAE, and we will walk you through the specifics for this role if it progresses.

Process

A conversation with us, then a technical round with the client, then a final discussion covering the move.
