TL;DR
Our client, an early-stage startup in Bengaluru, is hiring forward deployed engineers: engineers who sit with customers, understand their problem properly, and build the thing that solves it.
It is a genuine engineering role. The title confuses people because it sounds adjacent to sales or solutions consulting, and it is not.
The client is confidential at this stage. We will tell you who it is before your profile goes anywhere.
What the work is
You go to the customer, work out what they actually need as opposed to what the first meeting suggested, and build it. Then you bring back what you learned so the core product absorbs it, which is the part that makes the role valuable to the company rather than only to that one account.
The split is roughly: time with customers understanding the domain, time writing code against their real data and systems, and time feeding the general version back into the product.
What the client is looking for
Engineers who can hold a conversation with a non-technical customer without either patronising them or disappearing into detail. That skill is rarer than the coding, and it is the main thing the interview tests.
Breadth over depth. You will touch data pipelines, integrations, frontend and infrastructure in the same month, and the role rewards people who are comfortable being adequate at many things rather than excellent at one.
A tolerance for messy inputs. Customer data is never what the documentation says it is, and much of the job is absorbing that gracefully.
Who it suits
People who found pure backend work too far from the problem, and people who liked consulting but wanted to build rather than advise. It suits early-career engineers who want range, and experienced engineers who are tired of specifying work for someone else to do.
Process
A conversation with us, then the client's founders, then a session working through a real customer scenario.
